About Sheila Hodgson
FCPP welcomed Dr. Sheila Hodgson to its expanding network of healthcare providers. She is double Board Certified in General Surgery and Colon & Rectal Surgery. As a general surgeon she has experience with breast surgery, hernias, gallbladders and skin legions. She performs invasive and minimally invasive options for colon, rectal and anal surgeries. Her care philosophy is to focus on overall patient wellness by encouraging them to eat healthy, exercise and not smoke.
In her personal life, she is a proud immigrant to the U.S. - she came as toddler and was raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. As an adult, she joined the military and served four years on active duty. Later, as an army reservist, she was deployed both to Iraq and Afghanistan as a Surgeon. In her free time, she enjoys being with her family, traveling, gardening, reading and weight training.

Dr. Hodgson was very professional and possesses clear clinical expertise. Both of these factors gave me complete confidence in her as my surgeon. In addition, it was also clear she genuinely cared about wanting to see me recover well and take good next steps in order to achieve better long term health. At one point in the visit I needed to get some things off my chest about my heath care. She was very patient with me and LISTENED which many doctors don't really do.

Patient access staff was courteous upon check in. They were quick and available. I was very impressed with Liz the scheduler. She stayed on top of the referrals for me. She sent a referral for a CT to modesto imaging. She could have just sent the referral and been done with it but being aware that they take a while to process referrals, she made the extra phone call and let me know when she sent the referral and recommended I call to schedule the CT because modesto imaging will take a while to call me. Had she not done that, the CT could have been delayed several more days. I really appreciated her follow up.

My only encounter with the medical assist was in getting me a copies of two test results and over the phone. She was very efficient with the copies and patient over the phone as I tried to explain a conundrum between my oncologist's direction and how I could get the assistance I needed. She explained everything in detail and showed me the scan and demonstrated what she being doing in surgery with the scan as a model....I loved how thorough she was and she never rushed my appt. She put my husband's concerns at ease as well. Then at the hospital on surgery day she was kind and thorough yet again. At my follow up appt she remembered I was traveling to FL for a wedding and asked how it went. She remembered the little details. I absolutely appreciated her during this time. She is awesome!

Dr. Hodgson was very professional, knowledgeable, and really put me at ease with regards to the procedure. She answered all my panic questions patiently and put all of my concerns to rest. This is my first real surgery and she did a great job making sure I knew all the variables and outcomes. Really happy with my visit!

Dr. Hodgson was caring, attentive, and professional. There was a mistake with our referral and she went above and beyond to get us a same-day appointment with the appropriate doctor- Dr. Dam. Dr. Dam gave us a lot of confidence and put us at ease not only about needing this last-minute appointment arrangement, but in explaining the procedure and next steps that may be required. She went above and beyond to fit us into her procedure schedule promptly. We are so grateful for the care provided by both of these doctors.

From what I saw this aspect was excellent. It does appear that patients are not held accountable to any kind of standard in the waiting room. However this is s systemic problem caused by non medical experts Turing a pandemic into a political issue. It would be ludicrous for me to expect Sutter to change that.
